Perhaps not your taste if you're used to the more passionate, more fiery renditions all the way from Mengelberg to Furtwängler to Karajan.  Abbado, I can't say he's my fav but he had been with Berlin Phil long enough for me to like him.  Every time I listen to his Beethoven cycle, despite some weaknesses on parts that are supposed to be power and passion, I totally enjoy every single note of the music to such an extent that at times I am convinced that the non-angularity throughout the music is an ideal case of interpretation.   The silky strings of Berlin Phil, as always, leave nothing to be desired.  What do I listen to? No. 8, the small one.  But why not the no. 6? It will be the next on the queue.
